It was the universe and a broken leg that conspired to bring Kyla and Michael together, and while chance brought about their first meeting, no detail of their dream destination wedding was left to a roll of the dice. The Canadian hockey star and the girl with the mile-wide smile entrusted the team at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach, nestled on the Pacific side of Cabo San Lucas, to create a unique and personal celebration they would treasure for years to come.
Now, these two were giggling with nervous laughter from the moment we arrived and had scheduled a pre-ceremony first look to keep those nerves under control. We had chosen Pueblo Bonito’s quaint, Hacienda style courtyard and Chapel entrance as the location for our shoot, and Kyla’s grand entrance got our cameras clicking. Her figure-hugging, white gown with plunging neckline and intricate button detail were coupled with soft makeup and long, beachy waves to create a versatile look perfect for the more formal ambience of a ceremony as well as the festivities to follow. The spark was undeniable as Michael, equally on point in a blue-grey two-piece, turned to meet his bride. This was one wedding celebration we were very happy to be capturing.
Pueblo Bonito’s talented wedding planners have a reputation for working with the best of the best, and Kyla and Michael’s lineup of vendors was no exception. Maye Cortinas created their personalized, non-denominational ceremony, performed at the beachfront location designed by The Main Event Cabo, with floral elements by Emporio Arte Floral. The rustic, wooden chuppah with soft, neutral draping and an explosion of chaotic and colorful flowers were perfectly paired with wooden Chiavari chairs in a semi circular arrangement, creating a sense of privacy in an otherwise open area. Abel Aguirre, Cabo’s musical Jack of all trades, provided the soundtrack, this time putting aside his cello in favor of the classical violin.
After a few fruity cocktails and scrumptious appetizers, accompanied by a spectacular Mariachi Cabo performance, guests were seated for dinner. Our couple’s mothers bought tears to many an eye as they toasted their children’s union, but it was Kyla and Michael’s sweet first dance that stole the show. With the formalities taken care of DJ Roberto Contreras took charge of the decks, and kept the smiles and laughter coming well after the sun had set of a beautiful Los Cabos day.
